- Yahoo:
The number one search site, plus free e-mail, news, weather, travel, and
just about everything else.
- Alta Vista, Digital owns this
site; it's a fairly standard search engine.
- Excite's
pretty decent searches, and now they have news headlines and stocks.
- Northern
Light this one categorizes your search results.
- Infoseek I use this one more than any
other, I think, and now they offer personalized
news but then, who doesn't?
- Lycos
free-text searching
- Hotbot
from Hotwired: another one of my favorites.
- Ask
Jeeves question of the day, random questions, even a kids menu.
- Wired Cybrarian selected links,
with descriptions, in a bunch of categories
- search.com has the Infoseek engine as
well as more obscure topic-oriented choices
- Profusion combines
major search engines and filters the results
- SavvySearch and Metacrawler searches multiple Web
search engines simultaneously.
- Magellan describes and rates Web
resources. Also visit Voyeur to spy on
other searchers.
- Looksmart, from Reader's Digest; kind
of a condensed search engine, with sites picked by humans.
- The Mining
Company there's a ton of great stuff here. Sign up for their

Encyclopedia Britannica Internet Guide classifies, describes and rates
